Philanthropy Mission
Friendship. Sound learning. Moral rectitude. These are the three founding principles
of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and the tenets which every Phi strives to
encourage in himself and his fellow brothers. There are few better way to cultivate
these principles than participating in various
philanthropy events. Working together towards a common goal forges strong bonds of
friendship. Brothers learn more about themselves and others, and helping others is a
noble pursuit in and of itself. That is why philanthropy is an integral
part of Phi Delta Theta. If you have any questions regarding philanthropy at Phi Delt, please
contact our Philanthropy Chairman,
Jeffrey Bohme.
Halloween Fun House
Every year since our refounding we have participated in community service.
It is the idea of selfless help that motivates our brotherhood. The fun house
is for children aged 3-12 and consists of a play area in the great hall, a
haunted house in the basement, and candy galore. It has received a very
positive response from the community, and for it we have been honored by
General Headquarters with a service citation. Of course, not only does philanthropy serve
the function of fostering the three cardinal principles, but it also helps portray the
entire Greek community in a positive light to the surrounding community.
Phi Delt Foosball Tournament
In the Fall of 2003 introduced a new fundraising events to help fight Lou Gehrig's disease. With the support of local restaurants,
brothers managed to rent 10 foosball tables and give away over $100 dollars in gift certificate and prizes for the first Phi Delt
Foosball Tournament to help fight Lou Gehrig's Disease. Along with the tournament, we held a raffle that also gave away great prizes
and helped make over three-hundred dollars for ALS. Due to the success and overwhelming enthusiasm of "Phi Foos," future fundraisers
are sure to come.
Community Service

Every year, the brothers of Phi Delt volunteer for a multitude of diverse projects in order to develop a strong connection with
the Ithaca community. The On Site Volunteer Service (OSVS) finds volunteers for organizations in need. Through the help of OSVS,
we have been able to volunteer for The Museum of Art, Cayuga Nature Center and OSVS itself. Both brothers and Phikeia alike spend
their Saturday mornings and afternoons enthusiastically getting together to work with Ithaca residents to maintain and develop the
bustling town. Places like Cayuga Nature Center lack the proper funds to maintain trails and parks for visitors. They depend on the
help and society of volunteers like the brothers of Phi Delta Theta to keep their grounds clean. Volunteer organizations, such as OSVS
buy broken-down homes that are in desperate need of repair through demolition and reconstruction. Many of us have helped with the
demolition of old homes so that they can be restored in the near future and sold to low-income families. In spring 2004 OSVS awarded
Phi Delta Theta NYA with the "Volunteer Group of the Year Award." It has been a pleasure to have made a difference and we look forward
to doing more in the future.
